Good Morning Day 3

Day 3 dawns, we think? Pretty thick this morning and hard to tell where we are. Good thing to orient yourself:

You could see the flag pole and parse field in the back, we think. No worries, everyone can identify this red roof! Trading Post!! The place where dreams become real: pocket knives!!

We made opening and ready for the day.

Before I show Merit Badge classes, looked what I walked up on. 9 scouts pulling up a skier. Mr. Wooley, we may have to give this a try!

Couple of merit badge classes

Fun 2nd day, ending a bit wet

We’ve had a pretty good Day 2. Tuesday was river day so we were excited. Of course, some used the chance to catch up on rest on the bus ride to the river:

Ty also showed that his buddies can deposit a bottle top in his open mouth while napping! The fun that happens when u fall asleep while “friends” are still up!

It was great to get up into the mountains in North Carolina. This was the view from the bus:

The river really was a lot of fun and you’ll have to ask your son about it. Many boys swam in the 48 degree river, briefly, between rapids with a few choosing to exit the boat while in the middle of the rapid! Some also “rode the bull” on the raft through the rapid, which is up on the nose of the rapid. Many other experiences and a lot of pleased Scouts!

Couple other shots. Flag lowering with 800 Scouts.

And then supper. Yes, supper. Food has been…well, it’s camp food. I was hoping it was much improved over Camp Comer but I’m beginning to appreciate the difficulty of cooking camp food. Everyone seems to appreciate it and most are actually really happy with it. (Not much color diversity. This is actually more colors than many times so far. Lots of yellow!)

Now, we have had our first rain. And it is a drencher! Unfortunately, guys taking Wilderness Survival were going out to spend the night in the wilderness to show they could survive. They only brought 5 things and were going to build shelters. I’ll let you know how it went tomorrow. In the meantime, here’s what you do in the rain:
