Troop 79 is fortunate to have 2 different groups of Scouts going to 2 different summer activities. Both will be leaving on Sunday, June 26th, but each will go a different direction: Philmont Crew heads West while Woodruff Crew heads East.
This is the third year of attending Summer Camp at Woodruff Scout Reservation in the north Georgia Mountains. This is the camp for the Atlanta Area Council, but Troops come from all over the Southeast. Activities include watersports, shooting sports, nature and outdoor areas, and a Mountain Man program for new Scouts. We have 6 new Scouts attending, 4 repeat Scouts, and 5 adults attending the course of the week. You can send mail or packages to Scouts or Leaders by addressing:

This is the first time for our Troop to trek to Philmont and has been a goal since we first started four years ago. Philmont is one of 4 special High Adventure bases for the Boy Scouts of America and it is seen as Mecca to many Scouts and Scouters. It is comprised of 390 square miles of rugged mountain wilderness near Taos, NM. If someone has ever been involved in Scouting, chances are they’ve heard about it or attended and would go back if they ever got the chance. (Mr. Wooten and Mr. Churchman have been before – in fact it has been exactly 30 years and 3 days since Mr. Churchman was there!) We have 9 Scouts and 3 adults going.
