‘Mornin! Pretty soaked out here at Camp Comer but spirits don’t seem to be dampened. There are pocket-knives shining in the display case to look forward to! I told one parent that the Trading Post really knows what they’re doing: lots of sizes & options, multiple colors, with or without spiders emblazon on the side – all in a glass case with an “attendant!” if we get stuck in a dark ally, fear not! We are prepared!!
Our Scouts seem to be well prepared. Some maybe a little better than others but all have been able to weather the storms appropriately. It rained really hard last night but we were in camp and able to huddle under the shelter. A few Scouts pulled out their Scout books and we spent some time working on advancements. At times, it was hard for me to keep up with them but it was really exciting. They seem to be learning their knots well and are helping each other keep up. As I said, I enjoyed seeing their enthusiasm as the storm raged above us!
Last night was dinner in camp with boxes to make hoagies instead of the dining hall so the staff could have a night away from camp. ( I thought our Scouts could be quick to get out of their Scout shirts. You should have seen these college kids tearing off their uniforms after flag ceremony and they signed out. I feel sorry for the local folks in Ft Payne. I bet they look forward to every Wednesday night at camp!) we also had fixins for S’mores and were able to get a fire going long enough before the rain to roast a few mallows. Thanks to these guys for trying. Thanks also to who ever invented fire starters to assist their best efforts!
The guys were also able to have their Swimming class and got out on the dock and in water though it was drizzling. Not sure if they will be able to this morning. It is pretty chilly and still very overcast with a breeze. Nicer than 105 degrees but also good at making Scout-cicles!
Rain hampered the Personal Fitness outdoor activities so they went inside. I’m sure they were dissappointed they didn’t get to go out and run a mile around the parade grounds again!
Sorry for not as many pictures but my camera is not waterproof, making it difficult. More soon.
